Art Curriculum

Every JingShanite an active artist and informed audience.

The Art Curriculum enables every child to enjoy art, communicate visually and make meaning. It provides a progressive and age-appropriate education for creative and innovative aesthetic self-expression, while developing students’ range of artistic interests and talents.

In order to develop JingShanites into active artists and informed audiences, the curriculum aims to develop students’:

Visual inquiry skills to explore their surroundings
Curiosity, imagination and enjoyment in Art making and discussion
Confidence in working individually and in groups to create artworks
Awareness of and respect for histories and cultures of artworks and artists in Singapore and the world

Art as an avenue to develop mindfulness

Core Art Learning Experiences

At Jing Shan, art is a core subject and lessons are conducted once a week from Primary 1 to 6. In alignment with MOE’s Art Syllabus, all students will go through three core learning experiences of the art curriculum

Drawing	Through the use of various materials and engaging in different processes such as scribbling, doodling, and sketching. The drawing experience develops self-confidence and joy of using art to convey ideas.
Museum-Based Learning (MBL) at Primary 4	MBL is designed to provide the learning of local art in an authentic context. Primary 4 students will visit the museum and participate in a range of inquiry and learning activities.
Exhibition in Curriculum	Students display their own artworks in the classroom as part of the lesson. Through that, students learn to communicate about art.
